I became a State Farm Agent because fatherhood changed my outlook on how I can protect my loved ones during life events. What emphasized this for me was in March of 2022 when Soledad and I attended a family gathering, and she asked me to dance. I am not as daring as she is, so naturally I said no, then she asked again and I said the next song, finally she asked me, and I had no other excuses. Soledad’s face lit up with a smile as she grabbed my hand and we headed to the dance floor. While we danced my mom took a video and sent it to me later that night. A few days later during my lunch break a driver ran a red light and collided with my jeep and totaled it. As the dust from the airbags was settling the images of Solèdad and I dancing flashed across my mind and I felt a sense of relief that my uncle Manuel had talked to me about having a plan in place about the time Solèdad was born. As that image of us dancing was fixated in my mind I began to wonder what if I did not have that dance with Solèdad? What if I never get to dance with her at her Quinceañera? What if I don’t get to walk her down the aisle and dance with her at her wedding? I am glad that I was able to walk away with a few bruises from that accident and for the foreseeable future continue to be Solèdad’s dancing partner. If I never make it to those milestones I want my daughter to feel my presence through the Life Plan I have in place.
